Texian Heritage

More than 100 years of Texas History

Texian Heritage is the term used by the Fort Bend County Museum Association to refer to its collaborative activities that reach outside of Fort Bend County.

Texian is the word used by the early settlers of Texas to describe themselves.  Although the term passed out of favor by the time of the Civil War, it provides a good identifier for the Association's focus on Austin's Colony history (1824-1836) and the region of Southeast Texas (more than 30 current counties) that composed that colony.

Our Texian activities include:

Texian Time Machine: An outreach educational festival that travels to schools throughout the Houston region

Texian Heritage Enterprises: Our team of staff and contractors focuses the expertise of our organization to produce heritage services and projects for our own benefit, for institutional partners, and for outside clients.

San Felipe de Austin State Archeological Landmark: The Fort Bend County Museum Association is collaborating with other community organizations to research the history and excavate the archeological remains of Stephen F. Austin's colonial capital.

Texas Heritage Digitization Initiative: A statewide collaboration among numerous libraries, archives and museums whose mission is to create unified online access to cultural heritage resources held by Texas institutions. THDI promotes collaboration among Texas institutions by establishing common standards, sharing best practices and facilitating cooperative funding to provide online access to cultural heritage resources that benefit learners.

Texas Independence Trail Region: A heritage tourism initiative of the Texas Historical Commission, the Texas Independence Trail Region is managed through a partnership between the Texas Historical Commission, the Independence Trail Board of Directors and the Fort Bend County Museum Association.
