The Texian Time Machine is a museum-quality outreach educational program developed by the Fort Bend Museum that brings the experiences of the early settlers of Austin's Colony and the American frontier to life on school campuses throughout the Houston metropolitan area. Through immersive role-playing and hands-on activities provided by experienced costumed presenters, students engage in a compelling field trip experience without the travel time and costs.
The Time Machine fulfills TEKS objectives and is closely tied to Texas and American History curriculum. Costumed interpreters, living history demonstrations and student activities make this history festival both fun and educationally valuable.
The program can accommodate between 40-350 students per day with a half- or full-day event. Each half-day session begins at 9 a.m. and runs about 2.5 to 3 hours. A full-day session runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch. Schools with more than 350 students can request a two-day program.
Students rotate through stations, experiencing the different aspects of colonial life.
The Texian Time Machine is set up on the grounds of your campus. A full-day program requires a grassy area approximately 100’ x 200’.
The cost is $12 per student. Many schools have funded the event with the help of PTO fundraising, corporate support and grants.
