Scouts can fulfill most (maybe all) of the requirements for the Cub Scouts' SHAC Texas Badge or the Girl Scouts' Texas History patch by spending a day at the museum. They'll learn about Texas history, tour a historic home and read about Texas heroes.
Cost is $6 per scout and includes all supplies needed. Please bring your own lunch and drink. Class size is limited, so sign up as soon as possible. Scouts may register on their own or with their pack/troop.
Our Cub Scout Texas Badge Workshop and our Girl Scout Discover Texas Workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates:
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Saturday, October 11, 2008
Adults are needed to help with the activities. Patches must be purchased at scout shop separately. Texas Badge is not available for Tiger Cubs.
Call Claire Rogers at (281) 342-6478 for more information or e-mail her.
Two options are available:
1) Come to the museum as a group and do the regular admission tour, which includes a self-guided tour of the gallery of Texas history and guided tours of two historic homes. Cost is $3 for children five to 15 years old and $5 for adults.
2) Book a hands-on program: Tour the Long-Smith Cottage, built in 1840, and learn about the Smith family who lived in the house from 1860-1873, dress up like the children of that time and then do chores and play games just like they would have done in the 1800s! Cost is $4 per scout. Call (281) 342-6478 or e-mail Claire Rogers, Education Coordinator, to book the hands-on program.
